What does FYJC mean?

First Year Junior College (FYJC) is an admission process conducted online by Maharashtra Board. It is conducted for admission in junior college, i.e., classes 11th and 12th.

Students who have passed the 10th class from a recognized board can apply for the First Year Junior College. It is a merit-based admission process.

There are four streams for students to select from: 

1. Arts/Humanities
2. Commerce
3. Science
4. HSVC/MCVC: Minimum Competency and Vocational Course, which is job oriented course

Eligibility:

There are a few points that students should keep in mind while applying for FYJC. Failing to meet the eligibility criteria can disqualify your application. 

• Only students who have passed their class 10th/SSC from either Maharashtra Board or a recognized board can apply.
• The students must have studied English as the main subject.
• The students who want to secure admission in bifocal subjects must have studied mathematics as a main subject in SSC.
• The students who are from Maharashtra are given Constitutional Reservation.
• The students who have completed their 10th class from CBSE, ICSE or any board other than the Maharashtra board will have to fill out the Appendix ‘A’ form.

Students can go to the Maharashtra Board website to fill out the form. While the admission is based on merit. In 2021, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the board announced an alternative for students – Maharashtra CET (Common Entrance Test). The entrance test has a generic pattern with four sections: 

1. Mathematics
2. Social Science
3. Science
4. English

The entrance exam is optional. However, the students who appeared for the CET exam will be given priority. In the first phase, students who have appeared for the exam will be given admission based on their score on the test. After that, the remaining seats are given to the students who have applied for direct admission.
