What does NITI mean?

NITI is the short form for the Indian institution named “National Institute for Transforming India”. It is the central policy think tank for the Union Government. The agency helps the government in framing and catalyzing economic development and cooperation among governments of different levels in the policymaking process. The agency replaced the 65-year old Planning Commission which lost its prominence due to the changing economic world.

Formation of NITI

In 2014, the Planning Commission was diluted and on January 1st, 2015, the NITI Aayog was established and its first meeting was organized on 8th February.
