What does ADIDAS mean?<\/h2>\n

Adidas is a worldwide sportswear manufacturing company whose establishment dates back to the post-WWI era. An urban myth is that the name Adidas came from the backronym ‘All Day I Dream About Sports ‘<\/em><\/strong>. <\/em>However, the fact is the name had been derived from the name of its founder Adolf ‘Adi’ Dassler.<\/p>\n

Adolf Dassler<\/strong> was a passionate cobbler whose hobby was improvising footwear and sports kits. He started a small shoe firm at his mother’s scullery in Herzogenaurach.<\/strong> Due to the expansion of the business his brother Rudolf Dassler<\/strong>, who founded Puma, later on, joined on board. Thus, the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory started its journey in the sphere of footwear and sportswear in July 1924.<\/p>\n

The success of Jesse Owens at the Berlin Olympics (1936) who sponsored a customized shoe for the event by Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory spread the fame of the company. But in 1947, a family dispute led to the separation of the Dassler Brothers and marked the foundation of two of the future global brands, Adidas <\/strong>and Puma.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The employees were given the choice to join the preferred and on either bank of the Aurach river, two companies were set up. In the 1954 football world cup, triumphant West Germany’s every football player wore Adidas cleats which further laid the bedrock of its globalization.<\/p>\n
