The full form of FBO is Food Business Operator. FBO is any person or entity who is operating, owning or is responsible for the operations and activities such as manufacturing, distribution, storage or sale of food or food-based products.

Any such business is termed a Food Business and the operator must ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Generally, food businesses include food services, catering and sales of food products and ingredients.

• The FBO must ensure safety and hygiene standards during all the processes of the product.

Food Business Operator License

Any person willing to be an FBO must have the relevant FBO license. To obtain the license, an application needs to be done to the respective state or central government along with the relevant documents.

The officer appointed to the person grants the license upon investigation. In case the application has been there for two months and it hasn’t been rejected then the person may practice the work when the period of the application expires. A license is necessary for the food business as, without the license, the person can be sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to 5 lakhs.
