What does JNTU mean?

Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University is a state-run technology institute situated in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It was established under the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Act, 1972.

History

The Institute initially began as the Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, Hyderabad and was converted to JNTU on the 2nd of October, 1972.

JNU being a reputed and elite Indian Institute, the technology branch of the university has kept up to the set benchmark. Over the past 4 decades, JNTU has strived to provide quality technical education through the state. 

Features

JNTU is a multi-campus university with its main institute situated in Hyderabad. In its initial years of formation, the Government Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada, and Hyderabad and the arts and architecture college of Hyderabad came under JNTU’s jurisdiction. 

However, in 2008, as per a government order, these 4 institutes were established as individual colleges, namely the JNTU Hyderabad, JNTU Anantapur, JNTU Kakinada, and JNTU arts and architecture college, Hyderabad. Today, however, the university affiliates multiple colleges across several fields in Hyderabad. 

Administration 

The university is administered by an executive council, an academic senate, and a rector headed by a chancellor and vice-chancellor. The chancellor of the university is the governor of the state. The current vice-chancellor of the university is Prof. Katta Narasimha Reddy.

Courses offered.

JNTU being a technical institute offers most of its courses in the STEM and pharmaceutical field. Engineering is the most opted program, the university offers this in 25 different fields like aeronautical, chemical, computer, electronic, Energy Systems, Environmental Studies, mechanical, food technology, biomedical and biotechnical, etc.
