What does JRY mean?

Jawahar Rozgar Yojana aims to provide employment opportunities in rural areas, especially people below the poverty line. The scheme also considers scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and bonded laborers. Thirty percent of employment opportunities are reserved for women.

Jawahar Rozgar Yojana was launched by combining the National Rural Employment Program and Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Program. This employment scheme came into effect on April 1, 1989.

Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana replaced JRY on April 1, 1999. It emerged with the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana.

Stream

• The second Stream covered the 120 backward districts and received 20% of the funds.
• Third Stream – The total of 5% of the budget is allocated in the third Stream to improve the parameters like labor migration and drought-proofing.
