History of KSPCB

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board was constituted by the Government of Karnataka on Twenty First of September, Ninety seventy four (21/09/1974).

Initially constituted as the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board for Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, it was formed primarily for dealing with water pollution in the state.

The pursuance of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 was the main purpose of the KSPC Board. The act provides for the prevention and control of water pollution.

Following the enactment of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981, which dealt with the prevention and control of air pollution in the state, the board was renamed as the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board in 1985.

Structure:

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is headed by a Chairperson of the Board.

A Member Secretary assists the Chairperson for the smooth functioning of the administrative and policy making functions of the board.

With a working strength of around 300, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has three tiers of administration.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has one Head Office in Bengaluru, nine zonal offices and around forty four regional offices in almost every district in Karnataka.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is responsible for the enforcement of various legislations enacted for pollution control and environmental health :
