The College of Physicians and Surgeons is an autonomous institution that offers multiple postgraduate fellowship and certificate courses to students pursuing medical education in India. The College of Physicians and Surgeons is located in Mumbai.

History

The College of Physicians and Surgeons was established in Mumbai during the colonial rule in India, in the year 1913. The College of Physicians and Surgeons was inspired by and modeled after the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The establishment of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai was a result of a unanimous passing of the proposal to institute the College, with the proposals being proposed in a meeting called on 21 April 1912. The College of Physicians and Surgeons was formally established following its legal registration on 4 March 1913.

The Founding President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons was Surgeon General H W. Stevenson. The Vice Presidents of the College of Physicians and Surgeons were Dr. Sir Temulji B. Nariman and Colonel C.H.S. Meyer. The President and Vice Presidents of the College of Physicians and Surgeons were elected by the founding committee of the College of Physicians Surgeons.

Programs

The College of Physicians and Surgeons provide postgraduate courses in form of fellowship courses, diploma courses and certificate courses, each spanning across a time period of three years, two years and one year respectively. These postgraduate courses provide specialized knowledge in the field of medicine to the enrolled individuals.
