History and Growth

The company was founded in 1981 by two IIT Delhi alumni, Rajendra S. Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani just during the advent of the information technology era in India. It is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana.

Eventually, it began providing software-related products under the trademark “insof”. Along with products, the company also started providing services related to this software which included advising and consultancy.

In 1992 NIIT launched the GNIIT course which includes a three-year course designed to cater to the employment requirements across industries. The course includes 12 months of practical professional training.

In the next few years, NIIT marked its progress by being listed on the Indian stock exchanges and entering global markets by launching virtual study centers called NetVarsity. In 2005 NIIT launched a scheme specifically designed to train engineering graduates to get better employment opportunities.

In 2009 the company launched its non-profit university called the NIIT university. In 2014, owing to the government initiative to instill the youth with employable skills, NIIT collaborated with the national skill development corporation and launched NIIT “Yuva Jyoti Centers”.
