What does P2P mean?

Peer-to-peer or P2P is a network of computers, where resources are commonly shared among all peers (computers), also called nodes to form an interconnected network. It is a distributed application architecture where nodes are connected in a network to divide tasks and workload among themselves.

Creation and history

The P2P architecture existed right from when the internet came into existence as the ARPANET. Back then in 1969, the ARPANET connected major research institutes across the US, and these computers were treated as equal peers rather than clients and servers.

Later, in 1979 the USENET was formed on a similar Unix-to-Unix model. However, it was only in 1999 that the P2P model became prominent with the invention of Napster. Architecture
