What does PISA mean?

PISA is the abbreviation for Phenix Integrated Simulation Application. It is the first stage in the simulation of the Phenix detector. The application tracks the particles produced by the event generators and generates an output file. This output file is called the Hits file, a collection of data produced event-by-event. The data is collected as soon as the particles pass through the sensitive parts of the detector where they are recorded.

Generation of events

For generating events to track in the PISA, there are almost unlimited ways but 24 event generator interfaces are supported by PISA. These events can be generated internally or externally through stand-alone programs.

In the case of internal event generators, examples include the ones for single and dual particle tracking or resonance decay tracking. The UA1 is an internally computed full event generator that mimics the real event generators. Other interfaces available with PISA are HIJET, HIJING, VNI, VENUS and EXODUS.
