Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY) is a government scheme that aims to improve the quality of life of rural people. PMGY was introduced by former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Bajpayi. The main purpose of PMGY is to eradicate poverty and related problems from the rural parts of the country. PMGY focuses on sustainable living in the rural parts of the country. Central Government does the funding for PMGY.

There are two parts of PMGY

Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana ( Gramin Awas Yojana)

The Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana was known as Indira Awas Yojana. This scheme provides homes to rural people below the poverty line category. In the Gramin Awas Yojana scheme, beneficiaries receive governmental aid worth INR 1,20,000 for rural people and INR 1,30,000 for rural-hilly people.

The house is built in the name of the head- women of the family, and the home is equipped with basic facilities like electricity, toilet, smokeless chulha, LPG connection, etc. The beneficiaries have active participation in building the house, and they are prohibited from hiring the contractor for this purpose. 

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)

This government scheme aims to provide road connectivity to every village of the country. PMGSY works to connect the villages which have a population of more than 500 people, and in hilly places, the village must have 250 people residing for PMGSY. There is a special management committee called OMAS (Online Management and Accounting system) for managing PMGSY.
