What does STA mean?

In graph theory, STA or Spanning Tree Algorithm is a sub-graph of an undirected, connected graph where all the vertices are connected with the minimum possible number of edges. Though all the vertices of a spanning tree are connected, the sub-graph cannot be a cycle.

If a graph contains ‘n’ number of vertices, the total spanning tree of that graph will be nn-2 but the condition is the graph has to be a complete graph.

Prim’s Algorithm

Process

• First, a vertex is chosen. 
• Other possible vertices are connected with edges to that chosen one.
• The process is continued until all the vertices are covered. Any cycle should not be formed.

Kruskal’s Algorithm – This is also a process of forming MST from a connected, undirected graph.

Process – 

1. At first, all the edges are sorted from low weight to high.
2. The lowest weighted edge is chosen and other edges are connected to it.
3. Connecting process is continued until all the vertices are covered without making any cycle.
