UNO refers to the University of New Orleans. It is a public research university situated in Louisiana, United States. The university has four colleges serving different fields of studies, namely the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Human Development, College of Sciences, College of Business Administration and College of Engineering.

It is a member of the University of Louisiana System and the Urban 13 association. History of UNO

The University of New Orleans was established in the year 1956 when State senator Theodore M. Hickey authorized the establishment. Until that moment, the state of New Orleans had no public university and there was surely a need for one. Thus the establishment of UNO was crucial for the state.

It was originally named Louisiana State University in New Orleans, and built on the Lakefront. The classes got initiated in 1958 and were reckoned as an off-site department of the main campus. After years of development, it was renamed the University of New Orleans and in 2011, it was shifted from LSU to the University of Louisiana system.
