What does UPTU mean?

Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), rechristened as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), is a public university located in Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh Technical University act was passed on 8th May 2000 and the university came into effect on 26th July 2000. Durg Singh Chauhan had been appointed as the first vice-chancellor.

Later on, UPTU was bifurcated into Gautam Buddh Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University in 2010 and again these two were merged to form Dr. APJAbdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in 2013.

Campus

At the time of the establishment, the UPTU campus was on the IET Lucknow campus, recently at Jankipuram, Lucknow a separate campus has been inaugurated. Moreover, the university has a regional office in Noida.

Course Offered

According to the Universities Act ‘technical education’ includes educational programs, research, and training in engineering, architecture, technology, pharmacy, town planning, etc. However, it may vary from time to time synchronization with Central Govt. Declaration in the Gazette in consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Presently, AKTU offers the following courses –
