What does GPRS mean?

GPRS is the short form for General Packet Radio Service. It is a mobile data standard based on packets on the 2G and 3G cellular network’s Global System for Mobile Communications. It is also known as GSM-IP since it keeps users of the system online and allows internet access.

The standard was developed in response to the I-mode and CDPD cellular technologies by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. It allows network operators the implementation of IP-based architecture for data and voice applications. Under GPRS, the total data is transferred and billed during the billing cycle.
