HSPA is the abbreviation for the term High-Speed Packet Access. It is a mobile protocol that was established as a result of advancements in the already existing WCDMA system. It can also be viewed as the combination of two separate mobile protocols named High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).

This was done in wake of increasing packet data performance; HSPA protocol supports data access rates of as high as 14 Mbps downlink and 5.7 Mbps uplink.
